Airbnb is an online marketplace for arranging or offering lodging, primarily homestays, or tourism experiences. It has been present in Hungary since 2010, but since 2015 it is a considerable factor in the real estate market as well. Even the restrictions regarding the lease of accommodations in the inner district couldn’t be able to stop the growth of the company.
According to Colliers International, last year the nights spent in Airbnb accommodations were around 1.8 million, 25% more than the previous year. Airbnb’s market share reached 20% by the end of the year in terms of nights spent in the capital. The number of reservable accommodations has also increased by 10%.
69% of the reservations were in District V., VI. and VII. The most popular type of accommodation was renting the entire place, this took up 50% of all bookings. The capital’s market is mostly occupied by professional lessors, as 61% of them leases more than 1 property.
